“korthball?” … “cordball?” … “korvbal?” …
So you’d never heard of korfball until now? Don’t worry, you are in the majority! Most people (unless they are dutch) haven’t a clue what it is, so let us enlighten you!
KORF = BASKET when translated from Dutch, and hey presto, it is beginning to make sense! This Dutch form of basketball shares some basic traits of the game you might be familiar with – a basket and a ball to begin with – but big variations are quickly apparent.
1st BIG DIFFERENCE
4 GIRLS + 4 GUYS = 1 TEAM

(yes, we are talking about a MIXED SEX sport here)
2nd BIG DIFFERENCE
- 3 ½ meter high baskets
- NO back-board
- NO dribbling
(I promise you it is NOT netball in disguise!)
Basically, the team of 8 splits into two divisions (2 girlies and 2 guys on each) one division is attacking the other is defending. Every two goals and the roles swap. Throughout the game girls can only defend other girls and guys have to defend guys. Shots can be taken by any attacking player unless she or he is being closely defended. This ensures a fast game, full of tactics and set plays to get past your defenders and get the ball in the basket.
Still confused?
Best bet is to pop down to one of our training sessions and see the game in action!
